The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has suspended its industrial action with effect from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following engagements with key stakeholders, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In a statement, the association said the decision followed fruitful discussions aimed at addressing the concerns that led to the strike.

It noted that the intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, alongside the hospital’s Board, management, and other stakeholders, played a key role in facilitating dialogue towards resolving the impasse.

“The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) wishes to inform the general public that the industrial action embarked upon by its members has been suspended with effect from today, 9th June, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This decision has been made following fruitful engagements and the timely intervention of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” the statement said.

KADA explained that although it remains committed to ensuring a full resolution of the issues, it took into account the impact of the prolonged strike on patient care and public health.

According to the association, the safety and well-being of patients and the broader public interest informed its decision to suspend the action while dialogue continues.

It expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the hospital’s Board, management, and other stakeholders for their role in facilitating discussions aimed at an amicable resolution.

The association also acknowledged the support of the National Executive Council and members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), as well as several health sector unions and professional bodies, including the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, the Health Services Workers’ Union, the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana, the Orthopaedic Association of Ghana, the Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association.

The suspension brings to an end days of industrial action at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which disrupted healthcare delivery and left many patients stranded as services were affected.

KADA added that discussions with stakeholders will continue in efforts to resolve the outstanding issues.

The strike followed the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, after he announced the suspension of emergency services at the facility.
