Adwoa Safo shot in front of brother’s house; six bodyguards arrested

Six bodyguards attached to Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been arrested by the police following a shooting incident that left the ex-legislator injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday in front of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s residence, according to reports.

Police officers picked up the six bodyguards shortly after the shooting, which took place around 9 am.

A Citi news report say Adwoa Safo was in a vehicle when the gunshots were fired. A source described her injuries as not life-threatening, stating she is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and is in stable condition.

“She is very okay. She is at the hospital. The injury is not too serious, but an injury is an injury. She was in the car when she was shot,” the source said.

The source added that the weapon used appeared to be a pump-action gun, with pellets causing injuries around her upper body. “Some of the pellets caused injuries under her neck and on her chest. There was blood on her face because she had been shot and was bleeding before she was rushed to the hospital,” the source noted.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances leading to the shooting and the subsequent arrests.

The shooting comes amid heightened tensions within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo. There are reported disagreements over the succession process, with some family members challenging moves to position Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the new leader of the organisation.

Meanwhile, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Mission has confirmed that the Council of Elders for the church have confirmed Akofena Safo as the successor of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

According to the lawyer, Adwao attempted to break into the private residence of Akofena during the ceremony on Sunday. He alleges that the former Dome Kwabenya MP rammed into the gates of the house and subsequently fired gunshots which was returned with warning shots by the private security at the residence.

The Ghana Police service says it has commenced investigation into the shooting following a report filed by Sarah Adwoa Safo.
