At least 13 people have been confirmed dead, with several others injured, following a fatal three-vehicle collision at Odumase near Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway in the Ashanti Region.
The crash, which occurred on Thursday, June 16, 2026, involved a cargo truck loaded with tomatoes, a passenger bus and a fuel tanker that was reportedly empty at the time of the accident.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene worked to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage, while those injured were conveyed to nearby health facilities for medical attention.
Although the official cause of the accident has not been determined, eyewitness accounts cited by JoyNews suggest that the crash occurred after one of the vehicles allegedly made a wrongful overtaking attempt, resulting in a head-on collision.
The impact of the crash has caused significant traffic congestion along the busy highway as security agencies and emergency personnel continue recovery and rescue operations.
A second road crash was also reported shortly afterwards at Dadieso, another community near Konongo, raising further concerns about road safety along the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
Authorities have confirmed 13 fatalities so far, but the death toll could increase as efforts continue to account for all victims and provide care for those with critical injuries.
