The Headteacher of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Abdulai Zakaria, has been hospitalised at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after he was allegedly attacked by some students following claims surrounding the alleged burial of a fetus.
Reports indicate that tension erupted on the school campus after some students alleged that the headteacher had been seen burying what they believed to be a fetus in a nearby bush.
The students further claimed that the alleged incident was linked to an abortion involving a student of the school.
According to a JoyNews report, the allegations angered some students, who reportedly gathered in the early hours of Wednesday and confronted the headteacher.
He was allegedly assaulted during the confrontation and sustained injuries that required medical attention. Some school property was also reportedly damaged during the disturbance.
The injured headteacher was later transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition has not been officially disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has deployed personnel to the school to restore calm and investigate the incident. Police officers have reportedly exhumed a body believed by students to be that of a baby from the location identified on the school’s premises.
Academic activities at the school have been disrupted as authorities continue investigations, with students remaining under increased security.
The police are yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding the alleged discovery or the accusations levelled against the headteacher.
