Prez. Mahama makes fresh appointments and reassignments; Pelpuo, Brogya Genfi affected

President John Dramani Mahama has made fresh changes to his government, reassigning Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, to the Office of the President.

Under the new arrangement, Dr Pelpuo will serve as Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives at the Presidency, taking over from Emmanuel Agyekum, who currently occupies the position.

Mr Agyekum is expected to replace Dr Pelpuo as Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment.

The changes were announced in a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye.

The latest reassignments form part of ongoing changes to the composition and responsibilities of ministers under the Mahama administration.

In another change, Deputy Minister of Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi has been removed from the Defence Ministry and reassigned to the Presidency as a Special Advisor.

Mr Brogya Genfi had served as Deputy Defence Minister during a period of transition at the ministry following the appointment of Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as substantive Minister for Defence earlier this month.

The latest changes come weeks after President Mahama effected a broader ministerial reshuffle.

As part of that reshuffle, Mr Adjei was moved from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim was reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
