Agbodza threatens to terminate Techiman-Nkonsia-Wenchi road contract over delays

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has threatened to terminate the contract awarded to Volta Impex Construction for the 32-kilometre Techiman-Nkonsia-Wenchi road if the contractor fails to accelerate work.

Agbodza said the contractor had failed to heed repeated warnings from the Ghana Highway Authority to improve the pace of work, with the project currently only six per cent complete instead of the expected 15 to 20 per cent.

He said government would take a firm decision on the future of the contract after a meeting with the contractor scheduled for Monday, September 7.

“The contractor hasn’t shown enough commitment to complete this job. Some mobilisation has been paid, and the contractor is not here. We’ll make a firm decision on Monday, [September 7],” he said.

The minister made the remarks during a site inspection as part of a tour of selected road projects in the Bono, Bono East, Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions.

According to Agbodza, the slow pace of work was unacceptable, particularly after Volta Impex Construction received GH¢66 million in mobilisation payment in May to commence and accelerate work on the project.
