Sissala West MP calls for calm after Buo–Tiwii land dispute claims two lives

Sissala West Member of Parliament, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has called for calm and restraint following a land-related dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, reportedly resulted in the deaths of two people and left others injured. 

In a statement, Mr Sukparu expressed sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident,” he said.

The MP urged residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to remain calm and exercise restraint, particularly against acts of retaliation, provocation or further violence.

He warned that retaliatory actions could escalate tensions and result in further loss of lives and destruction of property.

According to Mr Sukparu, the Regional Security Council and District Security Council have deployed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to the affected communities.

He said the deployment is intended to help restore and maintain calm while investigations into the incident continue. 

Mr Sukparu, who described himself as “a son of both communities”, appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, women and other stakeholders to use their influence to promote peace and prevent further escalation.

“Whatever differences exist between us, no land or boundary dispute is worth the loss of another human life,” he said.

He also urged all parties and residents to cooperate fully with the security agencies as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The MP called on anyone with relevant information to provide it to the appropriate authorities to assist in establishing the facts and ensuring that due process is followed.

The call comes as security personnel remain deployed in the affected communities following the deadly dispute.
