The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has withdrawn from the committee tasked with finding a new head coach for Ghana’s senior men’s national team.

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum disclosed that Baffoe’s withdrawal was confirmed by the committee’s chairman, Fred Pappoe, during a meeting with the Executive Council.

Speaking to Max FM, Mr Asante Twum said no reason was given for Baffoe’s decision to withdraw.

“The chairman of the search committee, Fred Pappoe, confirmed to the Executive Council that Anthony was not part of the committee. This is based on the last meeting they held, which was last week Thursday, which I was present for,” he said.

“There was no reason given. All he said was that Tony had withdrawn. He mentioned that the four of them have been doing the job since they were sworn into office,” he added.

Baffoe was initially appointed to the five-member committee alongside former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah. The committee was chaired by Fred Pappoe.

The committee was tasked with recommending a substantive head coach for the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.

Following Baffoe’s withdrawal, the four-member committee settled on Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren as head coach, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as his assistants on a temporary basis.

Ghana are scheduled to face Somalia on November 11 before playing the return leg four days later.

Meanwhile, Baffoe, who serves as General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), has hinted at the possibility of contesting for the GFA presidency in the future.

When asked about the prospect, he responded: “You never know tomorrow.”
