Dutch court rejects two bail applications for Asante Akyem North MP
The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, remains in custody in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, after two applications seeking his release on bail were rejected.
Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, disclosed this at a parliamentary leadership media briefing on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
He said the MP’s legal team had failed to secure bail at both the initial application and appeal stages.
Mr Frimpong is expected to appear before a Dutch court on November 18 for an extradition hearing to determine whether he should be transferred to the United States.
Mr Dafeamekpor also dismissed reports suggesting that the legislator had already been transferred to the US, insisting that he remained in Dutch custody pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
He appealed to the public to remember the MP and his legal team in their prayers, expressing hope that the proceedings would allow him to return to Ghana and resume his parliamentary duties.
Mr Frimpong was arrested on May 10, 2026, at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after arriving from Ghana.
His detention followed an extradition request from the United States over allegations including romance scams and money laundering. The allegations have not been established in court.
