A gynecologist, Dr. Isaac Tetteh, has stated that inadequate sexual activity is one of the factors contributing to infertility among couples.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show with host Valerie Danso, Dr. Tetteh explained that while infertility is often linked to medical or physiological problems, the frequency and timing of sexual intercourse are equally important for conception.
He pointed out that many couples struggling to conceive overlook the need for regular sexual activity during a woman’s ovulation period.
Dr. Tetteh noted that the reproductive system functions within specific fertile windows, and failing to have intercourse during these periods lowers the chances of pregnancy.
He attributed long gaps in sexual activity to stress, demanding work schedules, and lifestyle factors, which can delay conception even when both partners are healthy.
The gynecologist advised couples planning to have children to prioritise open communication and intimacy.
He stressed that sexual health involves not only frequency but also emotional connection, proper timing, and mutual understanding.
Dr. Tetteh urged couples facing fertility issues to seek early medical consultation instead of depending on assumptions or traditional beliefs.
