The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has shut down several water-producing facilities in parts of Greater Accra for operating without the required licenses and under unhygienic conditions.
The affected areas include Ashaiman, Teshie, Nungua, and the Ga West Municipal area.
A statement issued by the FDA on Monday, November 10, 2025, indicated that most of the facilities were producing sachet water under unhygienic conditions, posing health risks to consumers.
“The FDA’s Food Inspectorate and Enforcement Team, as part of its ongoing Compliance and Surveillance Operations targeting unlicensed facilities, has shut down water-producing facilities in Ashaiman, Teshie, Nungua, and the Ga West Municipal area for operating without the required licenses.
“Most of these facilities were found to be producing under unhygienic conditions. We urge the public to purchase products from FDA-approved facilities,” the authority said.
The authority urged the public to purchase water and other regulated products only from FDA-approved facilities to ensure safety.
