The Gbese District Court in Accra has remanded Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, into police custody after denying him bail once again, as his extradition proceedings to the United States continue.
The court, presided over on Wednesday, February 25, adjourned the matter to March 18, 2026, for further hearing.
Abu Trica’s re-arrest by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) led to his appearance before the court. This follows his earlier discharge alongside co-accused by the same court in connection with local charges tied to a U.S. indictment.
The U.S. authorities have accused Abu Trica and others of involvement in an alleged $8 million romance scam that targeted elderly Americans through sophisticated online fraudulent activities, reportedly utilizing artificial intelligence tools.
The scheme, which has drawn significant international attention, prompted Ghanaian agencies to facilitate the extradition process under relevant laws.
No specific reasons were detailed in court for the latest denial of bail, but Abu Trica will remain in custody until the next scheduled appearance.
