The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced the full restoration of all power generation units following a major system disruption triggered by a fire at the Akosombo Substation.
In a Facebook post on Friday, May 1, the Minister stated that the country’s power system has been stabilised after engineers and emergency teams worked tirelessly to restore operations.
According to Jinapor, the restoration was achieved through the dedication and commitment of engineers, technicians, and emergency response teams who worked around the clock under difficult circumstances.
He described their efforts as a demonstration of discipline, professionalism, and patriotism in the face of significant challenges confronting the national grid.
The Minister also commended the leadership and staff of key state power institutions, including the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Volta River Authority (VRA), and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for their effective coordination and swift response in restoring power supply.
”Mission accomplished. All generation units are now back in service. In the face of a major system disruption, and against all odds, our engineers, technicians, and emergency teams worked around the clock to restore power and stabilise the grid. Through their tireless work, discipline, and commitment to country, power has been restored and system stability secured,” he wrote.
He noted that the collaboration among the various agencies played a crucial role in securing stability within the energy sector.
Jinapor further stated that the successful restoration of the system reflects Ghana’s ability to rely on the expertise and resilience of its people during periods of national difficulty.
”I extend my sincere appreciation to the leadership and staff of GRIDCo, VRA, ECG, and all supporting agencies whose coordination made this possible. This moment shows that even under pressure, Ghana can rely on the strength and skill of its people. May God bless our engineers, our energy sector, and our nation,” Mr Jinapor wrote.
