Ghana attacker Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.
The Manchester City player has asked to be excused from the September-October international window to focus on recovering from a persistent ankle injury.
Semenyo was prepared to undergo independent medical checks through the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to assess the injury, with further updates expected on his condition.
The 26-year-old has made a strong start to the Premier League season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in five appearances for Manchester City.
His withdrawal adds to Ghana’s growing list of absentees, with Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey also unavailable for the upcoming qualifiers.
The Black Stars will begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before hosting Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
In response to the latest absences, the technical team has made several late additions to the squad.
Brandon Thomas-Asante, Felix Afena-Gyan and Jonas Adjetey have been called up, while Rockson Yeboah and Rahim Ibrahim have received their first senior national team invitations.
Ghana will be hoping to begin the qualifying campaign strongly despite the absence of several key players.
