A student and a teacher of Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region, who were captured in a viral video engaged in a physical fight, have both been arrested.

The incident, which occurred in the school’s dormitory, sparked widespread public outrage after the video circulated widely on social media.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, both the student and the teacher have been taken into custody and are currently undergoing medical examinations to ascertain any potential harm sustained during the confrontation.

“Student of Nyinahini Catholic SHS seen in viral video fighting with a teacher arrested with the teacher. Both are undergoing medical examination for any potential harm on themselves. Investigations continue,” Mr Fenyi stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate is leading investigations into the matter to establish the full circumstances that led to the altercation.

Reports suggest the confrontation may have resulted from a disagreement over unpaid hostel fees, with the teacher also serving as a hostel caretaker.13

Authorities have assured that the matter is being handled professionally in line with GES rules and regulations.
