CLOGSAG’s nationwide indefinite strike begins today

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have commenced an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, 2026, over prolonged delays in the implementation of their agreed conditions of service.

The industrial action, which CLOGSAG says has become unavoidable after repeated unsuccessful engagements with the government, is expected to disrupt operations in various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as local government offices across the country, where the association’s members constitute a key segment of the administrative staff.

Despite a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC) ordering the suspension of the strike and a return to negotiations — with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 — CLOGSAG leadership has instructed members to proceed with the withdrawal of services, describing the government’s lack of response as unacceptable.

The association argues that the ongoing delay in implementing the agreed conditions of service, including aspects of a unique salary structure, has led to growing frustration among members regarding their welfare and working conditions.

In an interview with Citi News ahead of the action, CLOGSAG Public Relations Officer Edmund Aquaye confirmed that no official communication had been received from the government since the strike notice was issued last week.

“Since last Thursday that we gave the announcement for the strike, the National Assembly Council of CLOGSAG has still not heard anything from our employer and for that matter, our strike is still on. We are entreating all CLOGSAG members, wherever they are, not to go to work on March 9,” he stated.

“We are dealing with our employer and we expect that our employer should be communicating with us.”

The strike follows a formal notice issued by CLOGSAG on March 5, 2026, directing members in the Civil Service and Local Government Service to stay home until further notice.
