COKA calls for unity beyond politics in fight against galamsey

Aspiring Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, alias Chairman COKA, has appealed for a united national effort to tackle illegal mining, stressing that the fight against galamsey must go beyond partisan politics.

According to him, illegal mining destroys farmlands and threatens lives, adding that the country cannot afford to remain silent in the face of the environmental damage.

Mr Appiah noted that the escalating environmental crisis caused by illegal mining should be treated as a national concern rather than a political issue.

“The fight against galamsey is not about the NPP or the NDC. It is about Ghana,” he said.

He made the statement while speaking during a visit to Heaven Seekers Ministry on Sunday, May 10, where he joined congregants in celebrating Mother’s Day.

He added that addressing the menace would require not only effective policy interventions but also divine support through collective prayers.

“This fight demands divine intervention. Ghanaians must unite in both action and prayer to protect the country’s natural resources,” he said.

Speaking on his bid for the Ashanti Regional chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party, Appiah pledged to lead with humility, dedication, and integrity if elected.

“I am contesting for the position of regional chairman. I have done a lot of work. I have trust in God, and I believe that on August 8, 2026, at the latest by 6 pm, I am going to be the next Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.

“We cannot come here without asking for prayers. On the 8th of August, we are going to hold our regional elections,” he added.
