Chairman of Africa Institute on Governance and Security (AIGS), Lecturer at University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Founder of Kandifo Institute, former Parliamentary aspirant for the 2024 NPP Primaries (Abuakwa North Constituency) and former government spokesperson, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, was the special guest at the opening match of the Ohumkan Football Gala 2025.
The event, was held as part of activities leading up to the Ohumkan Festival, scheduled to officially begin on June 3.
The Football Gala, organized under the auspices of the Tafo Concern Youth Association, kicked off with an opening match between Fofiesi and Zongo on May 17 at Royals Park in Akyem Abuakwa North.
Dr. Boakye Danquah joined the teams and officiating referees as they exited the tunnel onto the pitch, where he performed the ceremonial kickoff to mark the beginning of the tournament. He also took the opportunity to exchange pleasantries with the players.
He expressed pride in being the special guest and participating in an event that brings the community together in celebration and unity.
“I honestly feel very proud to serve as the Special Guest to help present this event officially to the people of Akyem Tafo and other guests” he said
The Ohumkan Festival 2025 was officially launched on April 13 by the Akyem Tafo Traditional Council, and it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Omanhene of Akyem Tafo, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV.
This year’s festival will commence with a ban on drumming and noise-making from June 3 to June 17. A week-long celebration will follow, featuring cultural performances, inter-school competitions, health screenings, and a grand durbar on June 21.
The festivities will also include the launch of the Tafoman Development Fund and a series of special events such as a cooking competition, talent shows, a football gala, and a thanksgiving service.
Under Daasebre’s reign, the Akyem Tafo Traditional Area has seen significant progress through initiatives such as the Akyem Tafo Educational Fund, annual health screenings, construction of CHPS compounds, and the ongoing development of a multipurpose community resource centre.
His commitment to environmental sustainability and excellence in agriculture has garnered international acclaim, including the prestigious Best Cocoa Flavor Award from the International Cocoa Awards in France in 2015.
