Drama as EOCO rearrests Abdul-Wahab and wife shortly after Attorney-General withdraws case

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has re-arrested former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) CEO, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, shortly after the Attorney-General withdrew all charges against them.

The re-arrest occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, moments after the prosecution formally discontinued the case at the High Court, effectively ending the proceedings.

Lawyers for the accused have strongly criticised the development. Counsel for the second accused, Augustine Obuor, described the Attorney-General’s decision to withdraw the charges as an abuse of discretionary power, noting that the case had almost reached its conclusion.

He warned that any attempt by the state to refile the matter in another court would amount to a further abuse of process and urged that if new charges were to be pursued, they should have been amended instead of a complete withdrawal.

Similarly, counsel for the first accused, Godfred Yeboah Dame, expressed concern over the re-arrest while indicating that the defence would not oppose the withdrawal of the original charges. He criticised what he described as gross abuse of prosecutorial discretion.

The couple, together with three others — Richard Sam-Asante, The Aludiba Foundation, and Energy Partners Limited — had been facing 21 counts, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, conspiracy, and intentional dissipation of public funds.

Prosecutors alleged that while serving as NAFCO CEO between February 2017 and February 2025, Abdul-Wahab diverted over GH¢50.8 million from the company’s funds and fraudulently transferred an additional GH¢5.49 million to his personal company. His wife, Faiza Wuni, was accused of laundering over GH¢13.2 million through her company.

Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem Sai, had earlier announced the withdrawal of the charges, citing the discovery of fresh evidence to afford the accused persons a fair and more speedy trial.
