Ghana, Nigeria to collaborate in fight against cybercrime

Ghana and Nigeria are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation to combat the rising incidence of cybercrime, particularly involving Nigerian nationals operating in Ghana.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, held discussions with the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban, on February 16, 2026, to address the issue.

The meeting reviewed the results of Ghana’s ongoing crackdowns on cybercrime syndicates and explored ways to enhance collaboration for a more secure digital environment.

Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban expressed concern about the recent arrests and committed to addressing the underlying causes of such activities. He stressed the importance of protecting innocent, law-abiding Nigerians in Ghana and improving border security measures.

The diplomat also highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between the two countries and called on Nigerians residing in Ghana to serve as positive representatives of their nation.

Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to jointly tackling cybercrime and fostering a safer online space for citizens and the broader West African region.

The discussions come amid intensified operations by Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, police, and other agencies, which have led to multiple arrests of suspects linked to mobile money fraud, business email compromise, and other cyber-enabled crimes in recent months.
