The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has urged Ghanaians to exercise responsibility in their public utterances while enjoying their constitutional right to freedom of expression.
According to the minister, although the government is fully committed to protecting free speech, citizens must remain mindful of the impact of their words on national unity, peace, and development.
Sam George made the remarks during a brief appearance at a press conference organised by the Minority Caucus on Tuesday, June 9.
He reassured Ghanaians that freedom of speech remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy and that the government has no intention of undermining this fundamental right.
“We have a country to protect and we will build our country together. Free speech will be protected under this government and every other government but we should also be responsible in our utterances and that is all we are asking for,” the minister stated.
“We have one country, one people and so, be rest assured, your freedom of speech is guaranteed,” he added.
Sam George emphasised the need for a balanced approach where citizens enjoy their rights but also accept the responsibilities that come with them.
