Gov’t to reimburse academic user fee of first-year students beginning June

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced that starting next month, June, first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year will be reimbursed for the academic user fees they paid.

This initiative is in line with the government’s 2024 campaign promise, under the slogan “No Fees Stress”, which is designed to cover academic user fees for first-year students pursuing accredited diploma and degree programs in public tertiary institutions only.

In a press statement, the SLTF outlined the procedure applicants must follow to receive reimbursement for the fees they paid to secure admission and complete their first semester at the various institutions.

Applicants are required to access the No Fees Stress Portal and complete the process by uploading their admission letters. The Trust Fund has assured that it will cross-check applications against verified admission lists from the institutions to ensure legitimacy

How to Apply

To apply, students should visit NoFeesStress.sltf.gov.gh or www.sltf.gov.gh and provide the following information:

  • Ghana Card Identification Number
  • Telephone Number
  • Student ID Number

The applicant will be required to enter their Ghana Card number and verify their identity via the NIA system by taking a selfie on the Capture Page.

Next, the student fills in their details, receives an OTP code, enters it on the OTP page, inputs their institution and bank details, reviews the information, and then submits the application.

Upon successful submission, a message will appear: “Thank you, your information has been submitted.”

The Ministry of Education launched the No Fees Stress Portal on April 29, 2025, during the inauguration of a 13-member Board of Trustees of the SLTF, chaired by Cynthia Amerley Amarteifio.

The government has made a substantial allocation of GH¢499.8 million in the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy to support the implementation of this initiative
