Keep quiet and listen to the message- Captain Smart slams ScantySzn over preaching in public transport criticism

Onua TV morning show host, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has fired back at content creator ScantySzn following the latter’s controversial remarks calling for an end to preaching in public transport.

ScantySzn, during an episode of Yawa of the Day, expressed his disapproval of the often loud and intrusive nature of preaching on buses and trotro vehicles. In a strongly-worded tone laced with personal experiences, he described the practice as unnecessary and disruptive to passengers’ peace.

He added that the preachers sometimes make hasty spiritual judgments about commuters who choose to disconnect

“That is what I don’t like. You’re in public transport preaching. I’m a Christian. Yesterday I went to church; even Friday, I went for all-night. I am telling you, this thing— we have laws. We have to sack all those preaching in public transport. Sometimes when the preacher is talking and you connect your earphones, they look at you like you’re demonic.”Scanty’s comments sparked widespread debate online, with opinions sharply divided. Some supported his argument, citing the need for peace and personal space during commutes, while others viewed his position as an attack on religious freedom and evangelism. One of those who didn’t take kindly to his views was Captain Smart, a vocal media personality known for blending faith, activism, and commentary. Addressing the issue in a post on X, he rebuked ScantySzn and urged him to be more tolerant and spiritually discerning.“Will it harm you to keep quiet and listen to the message? I’m sure if it were music playing in the car, you would enjoy it without complaining. As a true believer, it is your duty to spread the Word of God and win souls for the Kingdom. Be careful not to speak against these things.” Captain Smart asked. Captain Smart argued that public transport provides a crucial platform for evangelism, especially in a country where many citizens may not attend formal church services. According to him, dismissing the efforts of street preachers based on comfort is short-sighted and spiritually dangerous. However, ScantySzn further shared a personal encounter that he believes typifies the futility of such preaching.“When I was in the University of Ghana, there was this street preacher. He had been preaching at the same junction for over 20 years. Every morning, he was there. But his life was the same. Same clothes, same spot, same message. No change. So what exactly are we achieving?”he said.
