Korle Bu doctors call off strike

Doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have called off their strike following a resolution with hospital management over tensions at the facility’s Central Laboratory.

The Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) announced the suspension of the industrial action in a notice dated Monday, May 4, 2026. The decision comes just hours after the doctors had withdrawn all Out-Patient Department (OPD) services.

According to KODA, the suspension follows a meeting with hospital management during which assurances were given to resolve the ongoing disagreements between Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists.

The Association noted that the intervention was necessary to enable laboratory physicians to resume their duties and restore cooperation within the Central Laboratory. KODA stressed that peaceful collaboration between the two professional groups is essential for quality healthcare delivery at the hospital.

Following the agreement, KODA has directed its members to fully resume Out-Patient services starting Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The brief strike had disrupted OPD services at Ghana’s largest referral hospital, causing concern among patients. The doctors’ action was on the back of unresolved disagreements over laboratory operations and professional roles.

KODA reiterated its commitment to patient safety and the maintenance of high professional standards at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
