Kwakye Ofosu accuses GBA of bias over silence on Afenyo-Markin’s attack on judge

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has sharply criticised the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) for what he describes as its failure to condemn alleged attacks on a judge by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the GBA’s silence stems from its alleged alignment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing the association as an “NPP grouping.”

The controversy follows strong remarks made by Afenyo-Markin at a press conference on Sunday, May 17, regarding the continued remand of Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

The Minority Leader had lashed out at the presiding judge at Circuit Court 9, stating:
“That Circuit Court 9 judge, I have no respect for him. I pray he summons me for contempt. I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law. It’s a shame on the judiciary, he doesn’t talk law.”

In a Facebook post on Monday, May 18, Kwakye Ofosu accused the GBA of selective outrage.

“I have long dismissed the Ghana Bar Association as an NPP grouping. If it were not so, the intolerable abuse of this Judge by the Minority Leader would have elicited an immediate, uncompromising response. They have been known to respond quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members,” he wrote.
