Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has been released after nearly five hours in the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Mr Kpebu was detained on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, on allegations of obstructing an officer of the Special Prosecutor during a visit to the OSP premises to assist in investigations.
Speaking to TV3 shortly after his release, Mr Kpebu described the detention as “needless,” insisting he had done nothing wrong.
He disclosed that the incident stemmed from a verbal exchange with a military officer attached to the OSP.
“The military officer said I am stupid, and I also said he is stupid. So we exchanged words,” Mr Kpebu recounted.
He further accused the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, of incompetence, stating that the arrest confirmed his longstanding concerns about Mr Agyebeng’s leadership.
“My arrest is a confirmation that Kissi Agyebeng is incompetent,” he said, adding that he intends to petition President John Dramani Mahama for the removal of the Special Prosecutor.
“I will petition for his removal. I have 15 allegations against him,” Mr Kpebu said.
Martin Kpebu who spoken to the media including The1957News before walking into the OSP, was accused of obstructing an officer.
But according to his lawyer, his client was detained as a result of a verbal altercation with a security officer.
Mr Kpebu in his interview following his release on Wednesday night revealed that has has been asked to return to the OSP on Thursday morning.
