The Ghana Police Service has denied media reports claiming that suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Amankwa, father-in-law of Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, have escaped from police custody.
Andrew Amankwa was shot during a robbery attack at the Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi on Friday, February 13, 2026. He was rushed to hospital and received intensive medical care but sadly passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Following the incident, four suspects were arrested in a swift operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the Anti-Robbery Unit, and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement teams.
On Monday, April 27, 2026, media reports alleged that the suspects had broken out of custody. However, the Police have dismissed the claims as false.
According to a Citinewsroom report, police sources have confirmed that all four suspects remain in lawful custody, and judicial proceedings are ongoing.
The Police urged the public to disregard the circulating reports and assured that the suspects are securely held as investigations and court processes continue.
