NPP to storm EOCO headquarters over Miracles Aboagye arrest

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to march to the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, 2026, to demand answers over the arrest of its Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the march is intended to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding Aboagye’s arrest, which the NPP believes is an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition.

Speaking on Channel One News on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Nana Boakye alleged that Aboagye was arrested without any prior invitation or notification from EOCO that he was under investigation or had committed any offence.

“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” he said.

Nana Boakye maintained that while the NPP supports accountability and is prepared to cooperate with any lawful investigation involving its members, state institutions must adhere to due process.

He further expressed concern over what he described as the increasing use of state institutions to harass political opponents, arguing that such actions undermine Ghana’s democratic credentials.

His remarks come after the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, alleged in a Facebook post that Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officers with the assistance of Immigration officials at the Accra International Airport.

According to Kodua, Aboagye’s lawyers have been denied access to him, his whereabouts remain unknown, and no charges have been filed against him.

As of the time of filing this report, EOCO had not publicly commented on the arrest or responded to the allegations made by the NPP.
