Assin South MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has called for a full-scale investigation into a series of major narcotics seizures involving consignments allegedly linked to Ghana.
According to Rev Ntim Fordjour, more than $1 billion worth of narcotics has been intercepted in Ghana and outside the country’s ports in less than two years under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
He cited several seizures, including an alleged $208 million methamphetamine consignment intercepted in Australia in April 2026.
“In April 2026, $208m worth of meth narcotics was busted in Australia from Ghana,” he said.
Rev Ntim Fordjour also referred to the recent seizure of cocaine valued at about $260 million in France, arguing that the incidents point to what he described as an unprecedented level of narcotics trafficking linked to Ghana.
He further questioned why no government official had been named or prosecuted after the Interior Minister reportedly indicated that some government officials were complicit in narcotics trafficking.
“The Interior Minister has indicated that government officials are complicit, but no government official has since been named nor prosecuted,” he said.
“This level of drug trafficking is unprecedented in our history,” Rev Ntim Fordjour added.
He is therefore demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged seizures and the circumstances surrounding the consignments.
The MP called for the investigation to involve the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Ghana Immigration Service and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He said such an investigation was necessary to establish how the consignments were connected to Ghana and determine whether any public officials or state institutions were involved.
The call comes amid growing scrutiny of Ghana’s alleged links to international narcotics trafficking following a number of major drug seizures involving consignments reportedly originating from or passing through the country.
