Sustainability enterprise, Nviron Hive, in partnership with wellness community organisation, Arena, has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at blending corporate wellness with environmental restoration.
The program, dubbed “Abonten Walks”, was officially unveiled today, May 22, 2025, to mark Global Biodiversity Day.
Abonten Walks is designed to offer organizations and communities a structured opportunity to engage in Ghana’s environmental protection efforts while simultaneously enhancing the physical and mental well-being of participants. At the heart of the initiative is a guiding philosophy: “Nurturing wellness, restoring nature, building community—one tree at a time.”
The program features immersive outdoor experiences combining guided wellness activities, strategic tree planting, and personal engagement with Ghana’s rich natural landscapes. Founder of Lyf Arena, Kwaku Ofosuhene, described the initiative as a timely innovation that redefines how companies approach employee well-being and sustainability.
“What makes Abonten Walks truly innovative is how it seamlessly integrates corporate wellness objectives with tangible environmental action,” Mr. Ofosuhene said. “Participants will engage in green actions like tree planting as part of a holistic experience that nurtures both personal and ecological well-being.”
Participants can enroll through various membership tiers, ranging from Green Pioneers to Conservation Champions, with special packages tailored for associations and community groups. Each tier offers varying levels of engagement and impact.
What distinguishes Abonten Walks from other environmental programs is its use of technology to ensure transparency and sustained engagement. Each tree planted receives a QR-coded tag with GPS tracking, allowing participants and their organizations to monitor its growth and contribution over time.
Yirenkyi, a team member involved in the program’s development, said the digital platform reinforces a long-term connection between people and the forests they help restore.
“Participants can literally watch their trees grow over time. This creates a sense of ownership and continuity that typical corporate retreats rarely provide.”he noted
The program’s flagship site is the Atewa Range Forest Reserve in the Eastern Region. Activities at this location begin with a traditional breakfast and mindfulness session, followed by guided hikes, wellness routines, and tree planting. Organizers plan to expand Abonten Walks to other ecologically significant locations across the country, including Wli Falls, Kakum National Park, Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, and Lake Bosomtwe.
In addition to promoting environmental stewardship, the program tracks wellness metrics and provides participating organizations with data reflecting improvements in employee health and team dynamics. All impact reports align with the Forestry Commission of Ghana’s standards and can be used in corporate sustainability documentation.
Dzifa Amegashie, Co-Founder of Nviron Hive, said Abonten Walks supports national goals such as Green Ghana Day, the Forestry Commission’s identified priority zones, and Ghana’s obligations under the Paris Agreement.
“Every tree planted through Abonten Walks contributes directly to Ghana’s afforestation targets,” Ms. Amegashie explained. “We are building a model where business success and environmental restoration go hand in hand.”
Co-founder Kwame Agyepong added that the program creates not just environmental value, but powerful human experiences.
“There’s something profoundly transformative about standing with your colleagues, hands in the soil, creating new life in these ancient forests,” he said. “These moments forge connections—to nature, to one another, and to a deeper sense of purpose.”
Organizations interested in participating can schedule consultations through the Nviron Hive website. The first Abonten Walks experience is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2025, at Ananse Akuraa, with additional dates expected to be announced in the coming months.
As the world seeks new ways to integrate employee well-being with climate action, Abonten Walks presents a compelling model—one that echoes the spirit of the 2025 Global Biodiversity Day by fostering harmony between humanity and the natural world, one tree, one step, and one breath at a time.
