The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate responsible for a series of violent attacks across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.

The arrests follow intelligence-led investigations that culminated in the apprehension of the suspects, who are believed to have terrorized motorists, market women, and residents in multiple incidents, including a fatal robbery where a driver lost his life.

According to a press release issued on Saturday, January 10, 2026, by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the syndicate’s activities came to light after a robbery on November 29, 2025, at a residence in Peduase, Aburi. During the attack, the armed suspects robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery, and an unspecified amount of cash.

The first arrest was made on January 6, 2026, when Kofi Ishmael, aged 30 (also known as Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa), was apprehended at Avenor in Accra by personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and Accra Regional PID. During interrogation, Ishmael confessed to his involvement and provided information leading to further arrests.

Subsequently, Kwame Bediako (alias Star Boy or Nkokorpor), identified as the ringleader, was arrested at Ablekuma Agape. A search of his residence uncovered a pump-action gun hidden in a fence wall, along with four BB cartridges. Bediako admitted to participating in several robberies.

Investigations revealed the gang’s involvement in highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along key routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and the Juaso-Kumasi stretch. The suspects were reportedly planning another operation at the time of their arrest.

The seven suspects now in custody include: Salia Mohammed (alias Kwaku Nuah, aged 27), Kofi Ishmael (alias Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, aged 32), Kwame Bediako (alias Star Boy or Nkokorpor, ringleader), Kwadwo Kalovi (alias Aticho), Mumuni Abdul Razak (alias Mogambo, aged 39), Kwasi Akambuley (alias Kwasi Fresh, aged 27), and Kwame Bonsu (alias Killer Ntua). One of the suspects is currently receiving medical attention in hospital.

Police have linked the group to previous crimes, with some members having jumped bail in ongoing court cases. Exhibits recovered include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds from their criminal activities.

Superintendent Obeng assured the public of the police’s commitment to combating crime, urging anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station to aid ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending remaining accomplices.
