The Bono East Regional Police Command has commended its officers for their honesty and professionalism after they safely returned a sum of GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner following the discovery of a lost bag on a major highway.

According to a police statement signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, the Public Relations Officer for Bono East, the incident occurred on February 14, 2026, at approximately 4:20 a.m. Police officers on duty at the Snap Check Point along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway spotted a bag lying on the roadside, believed to have fallen off a moving vehicle.

The bag, which bore the name “Ofori” and a contact phone number written on it, was retrieved by officers led by Inspector George Appiah and three others. Upon inspection, they discovered it contained a large amount of cash.

The officers immediately handed over the bag to the Regional Command for further action. Using the phone number provided, the police contacted the owner, who identified himself as 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown, Kumasi.

Mr. Ofori reported to the checkpoint to claim the bag. He explained that the GH¢85,000 was money he had withdrawn from GCB Bank in Wa and was transporting to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when the bag went missing.

In the presence of the owner, the cash amount was verified and confirmed to be exactly GH¢85,000. After providing satisfactory explanations and further verification, the police released the full amount to Mr. Ofori.

The police statement praised the officers for their integrity and also acknowledged community members who drew attention to the found item.

“We wish to highly commend our officers and the community members who brought this to the attention of the Police,” the statement read.
