Officers from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Akim Oda Divisional Headquarters have successfully intercepted an attempted theft of cocoa beans from a cargo truck in the Asuboa community.
According to details of the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, 2026, during a routine patrol mission, the police team responded promptly after a driver reported the theft.
The driver of the truck, with registration number AS 3650 S, transporting cocoa beans to Tema in Accra, had parked at Asuboa due to unfavorable weather conditions and was resting when the incident occurred. Thieves allegedly removed about five sacks of cocoa beans from the vehicle while he napped.
Upon realizing the theft, the driver alerted the patrol team who officers activated surveillance and recovered the stolen sacks, which had been hidden in a toilet room within the Asuboa community.
While retrieving the items, the officers were confronted by a man identified as Kwasi Brako, also known as Anas, who is suspected to be one of the masterminds behind the theft. A tussle ensued, during which the police used minimum force to effect his arrest.
Brako who suffered injury in the tussle was taken to a health facility for medical attention.
The suspect has been taken into custody at Akim Oda for further investigations while efforts remain underway to apprehend his accomplices.
