President Mahama conducts first reshuffle, Zanetor Rawlings, Mahama Ayariga appointed Ministers

President John Dramani Mahama has conducted his first ministerial reshuffle, nominating Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister of Environment, Science and Technology and Mahama Ayariga as Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while also submitting other names to Parliament for approval.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 7, 2026, by the Presidency Communications, the President, acting in accordance with Article 78(1) of the Constitution, submitted the names to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval as Ministers of State.

Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for the Klottey-Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has been nominated for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.

Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central Constituency in the Upper East Region and Majority Leader of Parliament, has been nominated for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

President Mahama has also reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who is the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, to the Ministry of Defence while Ahmed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
The nominations mark the first significant cabinet adjustments under the Mahama administration. Parliamentary approval is required before the nominees can formally assume their position
