President Mahama receives investigative report on helicopter crash

President John Dramani Mahama has received the official investigative report into the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two cabinet ministers.

The report, submitted to the President on Monday, November 10, 2025, was prepared by a special committee chaired by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak.

The committee was constituted shortly after the tragedy to determine the cause of the incident and recommend preventive measures.

The report was officially presented by to the president by the acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson who doubles as the Minister for Finance.

Ahead of the presentation, the Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced that the findings of the report will be made public on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during an official press briefing.

The fatal crash involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force. The aircraft departed Accra at approximately 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for an anti-illegal mining operation when it lost radar contact and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

All eight passengers and crew on board perished in the accident. The victims were Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and international aviation experts including the US Air Force.
