The Queenmother of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua II, was abducted in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, after armed men dressed in police uniforms stormed the Palace of the Kwahuhene at Abene in the Eastern Region.
According to a Citi News report, the abductors who claimed to be operatives from National Security, arrived at the palace around 4:00 a.m. and fired several gunshots before forcibly taking the Kwahuhemaa away.
During the raid, the assailants also seized the official Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. Real-time tracking information indicates the vehicle is currently heading towards Accra.
Both the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command and the Kwahu Divisional Police Command have reportedly denied any knowledge of the operation, stating that no official police or national security activity was scheduled at the palace.
The motive for the attack and abduction remains unknown, but reports say the incident has heightened tensions in the area, which has been grappling with long-standing chieftaincy disputes.
Residents of Abene and surrounding communities have expressed shock and fear following the brazen dawn raid. Many are calling for an immediate investigation and the safe return of the Queenmother.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ghana Police Service nor the Ministry of National Security has issued an official statement on the incident.
