The government of Ghana has approved a 9% salary increase for all public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2026 fiscal year.
The National Tripartite Committee also agreed to a 9% adjustment to the national daily minimum wage, raising it from GH¢19.97 to GH¢21.77, effective from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
The agreements were signed between the government represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance, and Organised Labour.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson commended Organised Labour for their cooperation, stating the increment supports Ghana’s economic recovery and efforts to reduce inflation.
Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Dr Rashid Pelpuo praised the constructive negotiations, while FWSC CEO Dr George Smith-Graham thanked labour for contributing to national recovery.
TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah acknowledged workers’ sacrifices in accepting the 9% rise and urged the government to avoid new taxes or tariff increases that could diminish its value.
The minimum wage communique was signed by Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Dr Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodie (Ghana Employers Association), and Joshua Ansah.
The base pay agreement was signed by Dr George Smith-Graham and Mr Ansah, witnessed by Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo of CLOGSAG.
