The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, has donated 100 sewing machines to Assembly Members across the constituency as part of efforts to promote vocational training and youth empowerment.
The donation is expected to support apprenticeship programmes within various electoral areas and provide opportunities for young people interested in acquiring employable skills in dressmaking and fashion design.
Speaking during the presentation, the MP said the initiative forms part of her commitment to reducing unemployment and encouraging skills development among the youth in the constituency. She noted that vocational and technical training remain critical tools for economic empowerment and self-employment.
According to her, the sewing machines will be distributed through Assembly Members, who are expected to identify beneficiaries and support local apprenticeship initiatives in their respective communities.
Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, who represents Sunyani West in Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said equipping young people with practical skills would help them create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to local economic growth.
She urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to learn a trade and become financially independent.
The initiative adds to a series of interventions undertaken by the MP since assuming office, including support for education, community development and security enhancement projects within the Sunyani West Municipality.
Observers say the provision of the sewing machines is expected to strengthen apprenticeship training at the community level and help address youth unemployment through vocational skills acquisition.
