The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has demanded an immediate suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The call by the Member of Parliament for Assin South followed a deadly stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, that claimed six lives and left several others injured.
Speaking on JoyNews, Rev. Fordjour described the incident as “deeply tragic” and insisted that human lives must take precedence over the recruitment process.
“The process must be halted immediately. Halt it immediately and let us prioritise lives,” he stated.
He emphasised the need for a comprehensive review of the recruitment procedures to incorporate better crowd management and safety measures.
“As we halt it, we need to get back to the table and review the entire process,” Rev. Fordjour added.
The lawmaker also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disaster to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
“A full investigation has to be undertaken to establish the facts, and reviews have to be put into the process for us to be able to save lives,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed the total number of casualties in the incident.
According to GAF, the total casualties are 23, with six dead persons and five in critical condition, while the remaining 12 are in fairly stable condition.
