Tamale City, Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals To Battle For GPL Spot After Ash Gold Demotion – GFA

The Ghana Football Association said Tamale City, Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals who placed second in their respective zones of the just ended Division One League(DOL) will participate in a playoff tournament to book a place in next season’s Ghana Premier League following Ash Gold’s demotion to the Division Two League.

According to the GFA, its management committee met to discuss possible ways to fill the void that will be created in next season’s Premier League since the Obuasi side, Ashanti Gold SC won’t feature in the league. The GFA then concluded all second placed teams from each division one zone to participate in a 3-team league tournament to determine the winner who eventually gains qualification to the Ghana Premier League for the 2022/23 season.

The Football Association said the three winners from the three zones of the Division One League gain automatic qualification to the Premier so it appropriate to select one team from the second placed clubs of the DOL to replace Ashanti Gold SC next season.

Premier League fans will be treated to good entertainment by these 3 teams similar to what was witnessed when Tamale City lost to Nsoatreman FC in the Division 1 Zone 1 playoff match at the Accra Sports stadium in June.

The 3 second placed clubs from the DOL zones to participate in the playoffs are:

Zone 1: Tamale City

Zone 2: Ebusua Dwarfs

Zone 3: Liberty Professionals

Ashanti Gold SC has been demoted to the Ghana Division Two League after the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association found the club guilty of match fixing scandal against Inter Allies football Club.
