The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying over 3,000 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis (commonly referred to as weed), in a major intelligence-led operation that also led to the arrest of two individuals for attempting to bribe officers.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Command, police disclosed that the interception occurred on February 15, 2026, at about 0010 hours.

According to the statement, officers from the Regional Patrols Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a Sinotruk Tipper Truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.

The vehicle was loaded with fertilizer sacks concealing a total of 3,009 slabs of the suspected narcotic substance. Upon sighting the police, the driver abandoned the truck and fled the scene. The vehicle and its contents have been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters for further investigations, while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing driver and establish ownership of the truck.

In a related development on February 16, 2026, at about 1910 hours, two suspects, Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35, were arrested at the Regional CID Office in Tema after they allegedly attempted to bribe police officers with a cash sum of GH¢150,000.

The bribe was intended to unlawfully influence the officers to release the impounded vehicle and the suspected narcotics. The money was successfully retrieved by the police and retained as an exhibit.

Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are scheduled to be arraigned before court on February 18, 2026.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating narcotic-related offences and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in the discharge of its duties.

The command assured the public of continued vigorous efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and related criminal activities in the region.
