Two suspected robbers are in police custody and receiving treatment for gunshot wounds after a police bodyguard foiled an attempted break-in at the residence of a Court of Appeal judge in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night, around 11:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Ghana Police Service.

The suspects, identified as Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21, allegedly scaled the fence of the judge’s property armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors. They were reportedly attempting to break into the judge’s private vehicle parked within the premises when the bodyguard on duty detected their presence.

Upon confrontation, the suspects resisted arrest and attempted to disarm the officer. Acting in self-defence and in accordance with police operational procedures, the bodyguard discharged his firearm, striking both men in the legs.

The injured suspects were immediately arrested and rushed under police escort to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they are reported to be in stable condition and undergoing treatment.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the officer for his vigilance, professionalism, and bravery, stating that his quick response likely prevented a more serious attack on a member of the judiciary.

In a statement, the Police Service reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the protection of judges, judicial officers, and the general public. Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.
