The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Muhammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that 21 suspects have been identified in connection with election-related violence that claimed 15 lives and injured 40 others during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the minister presented detailed data from a special police investigation task force, highlighting incidents across multiple regions and constituencies.

According to findings by the task force, eight deaths and 34 injuries were recorded across six constituencies during the 2020 general election.

The highest casualties, according to their findings, occurred in Odododiodio in the Greater Accra Region, with two deaths and 15 injuries. Techiman South in Bono East followed with two deaths and nine injuries, while Ablekuma Central in Greater Accra reported one death and four injuries.

Single-death incidents were also noted in Banda (Bono Region), Dormaa West (Bono Region), and Savelugu (Northern Region), with injuries ranging from one to three.

The 2024 elections saw seven deaths and six injuries across six constituencies. Offinso North in the Ashanti Region recorded the highest toll with two deaths and two injuries.

Single-death cases without injuries were reported in Awutu Senya (Central Region), Tolon (Northern Region), Damango (Savannah Region), and Nkoranza South (Bono East Region).

Ahafo Ano South-West in Ashanti reported one death and three injuries.

The minister revealed that, out of the 21 suspects identified in connection with the incidents, four are currently on bail, five are on remand, and the rest have warrants issued for their arrest.

He announced some recommendations by the task force, including the need for compensation to be paid to the affected victims and their families.

According to the minister, the recommendations have been forwarded to the Attorney General and Minister for Justice for further action, while a report has also been submitted to President John Dramani, who directed the investigation to be conducted after assuming office in January.

The minister disclosed that the government has decided to fully implement the recommendations of the Emil Short Commission, which investigated the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.

The minister assured the public that investigations remain ongoing, with security agencies working to apprehend fugitives and ensure justice is served.

He urged calm and cooperation from communities affected by the violence.
