The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an application today, Tuesday, December 16, seeking to overturn the Tamale High Court’s decision to annul the parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency.
The application, filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, challenges the High Court’s ruling that nullified the results of the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election.
Mr Nyindam argues that the High Court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the election petition brought by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
Through the judicial review application, the embattled MP is praying the apex court to quash the High Court’s judgment and all related processes, describing the original petition as invalid.
Following the High Court’s annulment, the NPP quickly filed for a stay of execution to prevent the NDC and the Electoral Commission from implementing the ruling until the Supreme Court determines the matter.
Meanwhile, NPP Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, has indicated that the party will await the Supreme Court’s verdict before deciding on its next steps.
In an interview with Citi News on Monday, December 15, 2025, Mr Mohammed stated: “For now, there is no election until we get a definitive ruling from the court. What the court is going to say will inform our decision. If it comes out positively, in line with the law, it means that Mathew Nyindam, having won the election, will continue to be the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, and the victory remains ours.”
He further warned that the party would respond decisively if the outcome is unfavourable. “But if the ruling comes otherwise, and the law is thrown to the dogs in the face of the Ghanaian people, we will make our stance very clear, and we will face whatever the court decides,” he added.
The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to bring clarity to the ongoing electoral dispute in the Kpandai constituency.
