The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, says government has cleared all outstanding payments owed to road contractors working on major projects across the country.
According to the Minister, contractors who have submitted work certificates under both ongoing and newly initiated “Big Push” road projects have been fully paid.
He made the remarks on Thursday, April 23, when he accompanied President John Dramani Mahama to inspect ongoing works on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway. The visit was to assess progress, construction quality, and project timelines as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure and connectivity.
“As of today [Thursday, April 23], every contractor who has raised a work certificate on any Big Push project has been settled. We do not owe any contractor a pesewa,” Mr Agbodza stated.
He said government’s road investment strategy prioritises local contractors to ensure a significant portion of infrastructure spending supports Ghanaian businesses.
Mr Agbodza added that government remains committed to sustaining road infrastructure development and ensuring timely payments to contractors to avoid delays in project execution.
He also commended Ghanaian contractors for the quality of work being delivered, noting that government continues to have strong confidence in their capacity to undertake major road projects.
“The performance of Ghanaian contractors has been impressive. The quality of work is good, and our belief in their ability to fix our roads remains unwavering,” he said.
