The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed claims that military lands have been allocated to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Mr Genfi stated that allegations suggesting that lands belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces had been handed over to the brother of President John Dramani Mahama for private development were entirely untrue.
“I wish to firmly dismiss and ignore any false and malicious reports suggesting that military lands have been given to the President’s brother to develop. That story is completely untrue,” he wrote.
Clarifying the matter, the Deputy Minister explained that the project being referenced is a redevelopment initiative spearheaded by the Ghana Armed Forces. The project aims to replace old and deteriorating infrastructure at Burma Camp in Accra, much of which dates back to the colonial era.
He noted that the redevelopment is being undertaken through a self-help housing scheme, with support from corporate bodies and individuals, including Mr Mahama, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited.
According to Mr Genfi, Ibrahim Mahama has contributed GH¢120 million towards the construction of 10 housing blocks, each consisting of 16 units, as part of the broader infrastructure replacement programme.
The donation was announced during a fundraising luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy. The event was chaired by prominent business leader Sam Jonah and attended by key stakeholders and partners of the armed forces.
Mr Genfi commended the gesture, describing it as patriotic and beneficial to the welfare of military personnel.
He emphasised that the contribution would significantly improve accommodation for members of the Ghana Armed Forces, many of whom currently live in outdated facilities.
