Ibrahim Mahama’s E&P has achieved what foreign mining companies failed to do in decades – NPP’s Abronye
Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has praised businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners (E&P), for their operations at Damang.
Abronye claimed that E&P had delivered more development in its host communities than foreign-owned mining companies had achieved in theirs over several decades.
He cited Newmont’s operations in Ahafo, arguing that the development associated with E&P at Damang surpassed what Newmont had delivered to its host communities over approximately 20 years.
Abronye also called for Ghana to entrust more of its gold resources to capable indigenous entrepreneurs, including Ibrahim Mahama, arguing that local ownership could bring greater benefits to the country.
He said Ghanaian-owned mining companies could contribute to employment creation, infrastructure development and increased local investment.
Abronye further acknowledged that he was among those who opposed the bauxite concession involving Exton Cubic Group Limited at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region in 2017. Engineers & Planners was also linked to the project, which became the subject of political and legal controversy.
His latest comments represent a favourable assessment of Ibrahim Mahama’s contribution to the mining sector, despite his previous opposition to the bauxite concession.
