Agradaa’s 15-year jail term reduced to 1 year by Amasaman High Court

The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence imposed on controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa (also known as Patricia Asiedua or Evangelist Mama Pat) to 12 calendar months, equivalent to one year.

The court, in its ruling delivered on Thursday, February 5, 2026, described the original 15-year term with hard labour  handed down by an Accra Circuit Court on July 3, 2025, as harsh and excessive under the circumstances.

While affirming the conviction on charges including defrauding by false pretences and charlatanic advertisement, the appellate court exercised its discretion to vary the sentence. The revised 12-month custodial term takes effect from the date of the original conviction on July 3, 2025.

This means Nana Agradaa, who has been serving time at Nsawam Prison, will now serve a total of 12 months in prison, potentially making her eligible for release in the coming months depending on any time already served and applicable remission rules.

The decision follows an appeal by Agradaa’s legal team challenging both the conviction and the severity of the punishment. The High Court held that although the offence warranted custodial punishment, the initial sentence was disproportionate, justifying the downward adjustment.

Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who transitioned into an evangelist and media personality, was convicted earlier in 2025 after a high-profile trial that drew widespread public attention and debate in Ghana.

Her case involved allegations of misleading followers through fraudulent schemes, including promises related to spiritual or financial miracles.

Further details on the ruling, including any additional conditions or fines, are yet to be fully disclosed. Nana Agradaa remains a polarizing figure in Ghanaian religious and entertainment circles.
