India women’s hockey team celebrate a goal against Team Ghana

Team Ghana’s start to the 2022 Commonwealth games has been quite disappointing after both the male and female hockey teams lost their respective opening games on Friday.

The female hockey team lost to India by 5 – 0 in their opening group stage game whiles the men’s team were at the receiving end of a 6 – 0 thrashing in the hands of host country England.

Both results meant both hockey teams lost by a combine score line of 11 without scoring a single goal.

In the triathlon event, Ghana’s pair of Mark Ofosu and Mercy Pappoe set a time of 1:09:31 and 1:41:46 to finish 39th and 32th respectively in the men’s and women’s triathlon.

Team Ghana will be hoping to put a disappointing day 1 behind them as day 2 of the games approaches with Ghanaian swimming prospect Abeiku Jackson set to be in action on Saturday. Winifred Ntumi will also be in action in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event.
