Youth influencer Abubakar Saddick, known as Cyborg PU, has been appointed as an ambassador for the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA)’s Gun Amnesty Programme. This follows his conviction for discharging a firearm in public.
In a statement released by NACSA on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the commission noted Cyborg’s involvement, highlighting his role in using digital platforms to educate and mobilize young people toward the voluntary surrender of illicit firearms.
During his visit to NACSA, Cyborg reflected on his past actions, expressing regret for publicly displaying a firearm and discharging ammunition.
He was briefed on the programme’s objectives, which aim to reduce gun violence and enhance community safety across Ghana.
“I believe peace and freedom begins with responsible choices and actions. I have learnt my lessons because now I know that the law is the law,” Cyborg stated, urging the youth to lead in building safer communities.
Executive Secretary, Dr Adam Bonaa on behalf of NACSA welcomed Cyborg while emphasizing his anticipating that the partnership will advance the message of a peaceful, safe, and gun-violence-free Ghana.
Cyborg’s ambassadorship comes after his conviction by the Adenta Circuit Court on December 31, 2025. The 54-year-old was arrested on December 29, 2025, following a viral video showing him brandishing a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun and firing warning shots as a “salute” to Nigerian musician Asake during the AfroFuture Festival at El Wak Stadium in Accra on December 28, 2025.
He pleaded guilty to charges under the Firearms Act, 1962 (Act 118) and the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), resulting in a fine of GH¢24,000 (2,000 penalty units) and the revocation of his firearm license.
The fine was paid in full, as confirmed by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The Gun Amnesty Programme, relaunched by NACSA, encourages Ghanaians to surrender illegal arms without prosecution until January 30, 2026, after which stricter enforcement will apply.
NACSA has been seeking support from influencers, traditional leaders, and public figures to amplify the initiative, with Cyborg’s participation as an example of redemption and advocacy for youth engagement in curbing illicit arms proliferation.
